Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales have announced that there is an open invitation for Welsh farmers to attend a special workshop with GrasscheckGB, a project monitoring grass growth accross the UK.

The workshop will be held on 22 February 2024 on Penmaen Bach farm near Machynlleth, and will be looking at the farming practices of brothers Richard Rees and Huw Llyr in developing grassland for the sheep that they keep there.

The farm has been a part of the GrasscheckGB programme for two years and the brothers have received help in terms of data analysis and broader support that has been very useful for the business. On the day the consultant Andy King will share an analysis of the seasons grass growth and will explain how analysing growth helps to aid decision making on the farm. There will be the opportunity for those who ar intrigued by the techniques discussed to ask questions and enquire further about the project.

Rachael Madeley-Davies, HCC’s Head of Sustainability and Future Policy said:

‘The work that has already been done here at Penmaen Bach provides a real in-depth insight into what can be achieved if we use data to its full advantage. Our industry and farming practices must evolve if we are to stay ahead of the game and lead the way in innovative, sustainable and profitable farm businesses. I would encourage anyone who grows this valuable resource to join the information day and get learn about the project and benefits it can deliver for their own farming enterprise.’
