The Institute of Welsh Affairs is to hold a joint event with Bangor University in Menai Science Park on 5 October 2023 to discuss the potential of Anglesey being an ‘Energy Island’. The organisers state that the intention of the event is to look at energy provision on the island, and ways to ensure that this is safe, reliable and sustainable in the context of reaching net zero.

The event promises to ‘unpick the debate on energy in north Wales’ according to the organisers, with a panel discussion between Vriginia Crosbie MP, Andy Billcliff from Morlais, Dylan Williams from Anglesey Council and Debbie Jones from M-Sparc. There will be presentations by Proffessor Simon Middleburgh from Bangor University who is a member of the Nuclear Futures Institute and by Professor Simon Neill also from the university, who is an expert on renewable energy generation in the sea.
